Conditions of Reporting

  • It is presumed that the tests performed on the specimen belong to the patient named or identified as such.

  • The reported results are for the information and interpretation by a qualified medical professional only.

  • Only such medical professionals who understand reporting units, reference ranges and limitations of the technologies employed for testing should interpret the results.

  • The report may need to be correlated clinically as the laboratory investigations are dependent on multiple variables.

  • The results of the tests may vary from laboratory to laboratory and also in some parameters from time to time for the same patients depending on multiple variables.

  • The retention time for benign specimens is 1 month, and malignant specimens is 6 months.

Turnaround Time (TAT)

The turnaround time indicates the time interval from the time of sample collection registered in the LIS to the time of report authorized at the laboratory.

  • TAT for the tests will be 2-6 hours for most of the routine parameters under the scope of accreditation. The turnaround time captures the time interval from the sample collected, to the authorizing of the reports in LIS. The individual Turnaround time is mentioned in the Directory of services, section of the Laboratory Manual.

  • Test results for samples collected between 8.00 am to 11.00 am (except for ‘stat’ investigations) will be available by 2.00 pm on the same day.

  • Test results for samples collected after 11.00 am to 2.00pm (except for ‘stat’ investigations) will be available the same day by 5.00 pm.

  • Test results for samples collected after 2.00 pm to 4.00pm (except for ‘stat’ investigations) will be available the same day by 7.00 pm,

  • Test results for samples collected after 4.00pm to 6.00pm (except for ‘stat’ investigations) will be available the same day by 8.00pm.

  • Test results for samples collected after 6.00pm till next day morning 8.00amwill be available the next day morning by 11.00am. However for, investigations of inpatients an interim report is available.

  • On general holidays as per the availability of the consultants the turnaround time may vary.

  • Investigation requests received from critical care areas of the hospital like Emergency, ICU, CCU, OT etc. would be given priority.

  • Samples received for Histopathology examinations are made available depending upon the size of the specimen, number of slides and (any) other considerations. The lab reception will notify the patients about the availability of the report in consultation with the pathologist.

  • Special tests / tests outsourced to other accredited labs shall be made available to the customer depending on the TAT of the referral lab and the patient notified accordingly about the report availability.
