What is Gynaecological Oncology?

Gynaecological Oncology is the subspeciality dedicated to preventing, diagnosing, and treating cancers of the female reproductive system—including the cervix, ovaries, uterus (endometrium), vulva, and vagina. At Mallige Hospital, our onco-gynaecology team offers comprehensive care spanning risk assessment and screening (Pap/HPV), colposcopy and biopsy, advanced imaging and staging, complex cancer surgeries, and coordinated medical and radiation therapies—followed by personalised rehabilitation and survivorship support.

FAQs

Cancers of the cervix, ovaries, uterus (endometrium), vulva, and vagina. We provide prevention (HPV vaccination, Pap/HPV screening), early detection, staging, surgery, and coordination of chemotherapy/radiotherapy as needed.

If you have an abnormal Pap/HPV test, postmenopausal bleeding, a suspicious ovarian mass, persistent pelvic symptoms, biopsy-proven pre-cancer/cancer, or suspected recurrence—an onco-gynaecology consult is recommended.

Yes—where appropriate, laparoscopic/robotic procedures can reduce pain, blood loss, and hospital stay. Suitability depends on cancer type, stage, and fitness. Your surgeon will advise the safest option.

Cases are discussed in a multidisciplinary tumour board. Depending on stage and tumour biology, you may need adjuvant chemotherapy, radiation, or targeted therapy. We coordinate a personalised plan and supportive care.

Regular surveillance visits (initially every 3–6 months, then yearly) check for recurrence and manage late effects. We offer survivorship counselling, rehab, and psychosocial support.
