FAQs

VATS (Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery) is a minimally invasive chest surgery done through small keyhole incisions using a camera and specialised instruments, often resulting in less pain and faster recovery than open surgery.

Removal of a thick fibrous “peel” from the lung and pleura to allow the lung to re-expand, commonly performed for chronic empyema or long-standing pleural disease.

Surgical removal of an entire lung, usually for centrally located cancers or severely destroyed lung tissue, performed after careful evaluation of remaining lung function.

A procedure that seals the pleural space to prevent recurrent fluid or air accumulation (pleural effusion or pneumothorax), done chemically (talc/agents) or mechanically, via VATS or a small incision.

Removal of a lobe of the lung, commonly performed for early-stage lung cancer or localized disease; it can often be done via VATS for quicker recovery.

A minimally invasive procedure using a scope inserted through a small incision above the sternum to examine and biopsy mediastinal structures, primarily lymph nodes for staging lung cancer.

Surgical removal of lymph node stations within the mediastinum for accurate staging and local control, commonly performed during lung cancer resections.
